Brief Introduction of Shri Pramod Prakash Shrivastav Ji:
IAS (Retd) Shri Pramod Prakash Shrivastav Ji has been a Member of the Governing Body of the Tibet House for over 3 decades now. His last assignment with the Govt of India was as Member of the North Eastern Council in the rank of Union Minister of State, for around eight and a half years starting from 2005. In fact, starting from the year 1960, he has around 35 years experience of postings in the North-East and handling of that Region from the Govt of India. Earlier, he had served in the Ministry of Home Affairs at all the levels from Director to Spl Secretary for 12 years in 3 tenures (between 1975 and 1992) handling most of the Divisions of the Ministry. His other postings included Chief Secretary of the State of Goa, Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (1981-86) and also as Adviser to Governor in 3 States (viz.Assam in 1990-91, Himachal Pradesh in 1993 and Manipur in 1994) for almost one year each during periods of crisis when these States had to be brought under President’s Rule. He had started his service career as a Lecturer in a Govt Degree/PG College for 3 years after obtaining M.Sc. in Chemistry in 1954 from the Rajasthan University securing 1 st Division and 1 st position in the subject in the University. Thereafter he was selected in the IPS in 1960 and later in the IAS while he was in the North East. Shri Shrivastav has been taking keen interest in enhancement of the quality of the three crucial dimensions of human personality, namely, the physical, the intellectual and the spiritual. Activities that he tried to promote all through his service career included Yoga for keeping the body and mind fit and alert; inculcation of human values in the education system for a healthy and progressive mind in the community and grasping the essence of scriptures to gain insight of the soul and over- soul. The wisdom gained by such knowledge will go a long way in shaping of sound character and building of strong foundation on which the human beings can evolve higher and move closer to divinity. This bent of mind brought him closer to the Buddhist philosophy and teachings, and he became an admirer of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and his teachings of compassion. That brought him in touch with the Tibet House when he got a posting in Delhi in the seventies. That relationship became closer and abiding when he was nominated to the Membership of the Governing Body of Tibet House.
