Online Retreat – Inquiry into the Nature of Reality

Understanding Emptiness in the Nalanda Buddhist Tradition

A Dialogue Between Buddhism and Modern Science

Tibet House, New Delhi, in collaboration with Nalanda Foundation, Russia, is pleased to announce an online retreat with Venerable Geshe Dorji Damdul, Director of Tibet House, New Delhi, on the theme “Inquiry into the Nature of Reality: Understanding Emptiness in the Nalanda Buddhist Tradition.”

The retreat will explore one of the most profound teachings of Buddhist philosophy—the understanding of emptiness (Śūnyatā) and its relevance to our experience of reality, wisdom, compassion, and inner transformation. Drawing upon the rich intellectual heritage of the Nalanda tradition, Venerable Geshe Dorji Damdul will present a systematic and accessible introduction to the Buddhist analysis of reality and dependent arising.

A special feature of the retreat will be the exploration of the dialogue between Buddhist philosophy and modern science. Participants will examine areas of convergence and difference between the Buddhist understanding of reality and contemporary scientific inquiry, including questions relating to perception, subjectivity, causality, consciousness, and developments in modern physics.

Known internationally for his clarity and precision in presenting complex philosophical concepts, Venerable Geshe Dorji Damdul has inspired students around the world through his ability to bridge traditional Buddhist wisdom and contemporary thought. This retreat will therefore be valuable both for newcomers seeking an introduction to the teaching of emptiness and for experienced students wishing to deepen their understanding.
